STOCKHOLM (AFP) - Swedish truck manufacturer announced Friday it had delivered to the City of Stockholm, a world premiere, ten clean buses, running on ethanol, the latest generation.
"Compared to buses running on diesel vehicles, ethanol reduces emissions of fossil carbon dioxide up to 90%," notes Scania in a statement.
third generation buses were delivered to Busslink, head of bus traffic in the center of the Swedish capital on behalf of the public transport company Stockholm Transport (SL).
"The ethanol buses contribute to lower emissions from public transport in Stockholm. They are also an economically viable alternative to diesel buses in terms of operational costs and reliability, "said Per Wikström, Vice President and Director of Environmental Busslink.
Busslink, who has over 15 years experience ethanol buses, has a fleet of 330 buses in circulation.
Scania said its third-generation ethanol buses already meet the European standards (Euro 5) on emissions of gases that come into force in 2009.
