What The World Marbles?
The World Championship on Balls are sand for 23 years. The principle of this original event, unique in the world is simple: for a whole year a team (3 to 5 persons) moves in many French towns and various foreign countries in order to qualify competitors for the national and world finals, which traditionally takes place where the competition was born, each end of August in the Charente-Maritime.La competition takes place on a circuit (real or artistic work requiring several days of tracing by our team) drawn on the sand, with straight lines, curves, hills, chicanes and other obstacles. It is open to everyone from age 7, boys and girls without distinction and without limit d'âge. Les éliminatoires se déroulent généralement pendant 2 à 3 jours. La finale locale ayant lieu le dernier jour afin de qualifier le vainqueur qui participera à la finale.

The World Marbles on Sand Championship (Mondial Billes) was born 21 years ago in Royan on the French Atlantic Coast. The way it works is simple ! All year round, the World Marbles Team (between 4 and 7 people) travel to over 60 destinations World Wide (including France, Germany, Cuba, Canada, Tunisia, Iceland, Great Britain, Poland...) in order to select a National Champion from each participating country. The World Final takes place at the end of August each year where these National Champions contest the title of World Champion.In 1999 the World Final was won by Junior Martinez Fonseca, 13 yrs old from Cuba. In 2000 the World Final was won by Xavier Michelet, 29 yrs old from Le Mans, France. In 2001, the title went to 16 year old Milen Dimitrov from Bulgaria. The competition takes place on a circuit (a real work of art which takes the world marbles team between 1 and 4 days to sculpt depending on size) sculpted in sand. Each circuit is a representation of a leg of the cycle race "Le TOUR DE FRANCE" with straights, bends, mountains, chicanes and other obstacles.The competition is open to anyone and everyone aged 7 and up. Inscriptions are free and are taken on the day. The heats generally take place over a period of 2 to 3 days with a local final On The Last Day of the competition.
